Dr. Stephen Fiess, a native of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, holds degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario and Indiana University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy, Performance, and Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He also holds Associate Certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, and from the American Guild of Organists. Dr. Fiess was a prize winner in the Ernst Krenek Division of the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition. He was also first prize winner in the Kawai Piano Corporation’s Searching for a Star competition. His ballets have been performed in Colorado, and at the International Dance Festival of Havana, Cuba. His piano music has been published by Waterloo/Mayfair Music, Voice of the Rockies, and Myklas Press/Alfred Music. His sacred music has been published by MorningStar Music and Voice of the Rockies. His interest in the piano music of the Russian composer Serge Prokofiev led to a book on that subject, The Piano Works of Serge Prokofiev, published by Rowman and Littlefield. During his musical career, Dr. Fiess has been a dance and choral accompanist, church organist and pianist, composer, performer, and teacher. He currently serves as organist and pianist at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Centennial.
